Burroughs Room
The Burroughs Room is a unique space within the Conference Centre. Accessed from the central terrazzo lobby, this room has been designed and decorated with private dining high on the agenda, although we recognise that the features give it a much broader appeal. The look is sleek and contemporary, and is well-suited to a variety of events. The room is named after Silas Burroughs.

Silas Burroughs – a brief biographySilas Mainville Burroughs was born in Medina, upstate New York, in 1846. He spent a number of years working in shops and learning business trades before becoming a travelling pharmaceutical salesman and graduating from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 1877. In 1878 Burroughs travelled to London and set up his own company, Burroughs & Co., importing American medicines. He was determined to expand internationally and produce his own goods. Burroughs invited his college friend Henry Wellcome to join his company and, in 1880, Wellcome did so as a junior partner with a loan from Burroughs, the firm's name being changed to Burroughs, Wellcome & Co. In 1895, Burroughs died unexpectedly, leaving the company in the hands of his partner.
