Henry Wellcome Auditorium
Named after the founder of the Wellcome Trust,
the Henry Wellcome Auditorium is the centre piece of Wellcome Collection Conference Centre, reaching over two floors of the building with tiered seating for 154. There has been an auditorium in the building since it was first opened in 1936, but the refurbishment has allowed us to improve the staging and speaker arrangement, and ensure your event is technically supported from the projection room at the rear with the very best of modern technology. When you hire the auditorium space you are allocated a breakout area where you can set up a registration desk and offer your attendees refreshments. Included with this space are rooms that can be used as an organiser's office and a cloakroom to ensure your guests are looked after within one area.

Sir Henry Wellcome – a brief biographyHenry Wellcome was born in 1853 in Wisconsin, USA. After graduating from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, he worked as a travelling salesman for a pharmaceutical company in New York until 1880, when he and a friend from college, Silas Burroughs, established a pharmaceutical company – Burroughs Wellcome & Co. In 1895, Burroughs died, leaving the company in the hands of his partner. The firm flourished under Wellcome's leadership. He set up several research laboratories loosely linked to the drugs company - a highly original step at the time - and employed some of the most outstanding scientists of the day. Wellcome also indulged his passion for collecting artefacts related to medicine. His ambitious plan was to create a Museum of Man, illustrating all aspects of humankind's medical past through objects assembled from every era and place. The Auditorium is named after Sir Henry, under whose will the Wellcome Trust was established in 1936.
